The early years.
Every generalist has a stretch of years where the throughline only appears in hindsight. Mine runs from econometrics on water access to an AI document-querying system to animated math videos, and the throughline turned out to be: pick an unfamiliar domain, get functional fast, ship something measurable.
IIM Bangalore, water-access research
Drinking-water access in India, 1991-2022, three decades of survey data, one question: who actually gets water?
- Organized and analysed 15 national surveys (NFHS, NSSO, IHDS) spanning 1992-2020, finding a 17% national increase in tap-water access, with 64% of rural households still without it in 2020.
- Exposed the gender disparity in water fetching (75% done by women), with male involvement rising from 10.5% to 21% over the period.
- Ran heterogeneity analysis across states, castes, and income groups; found government scheme impact was negligible (<1% receiving help) and identified states for causal policy analysis using IMIS data.
Aqua Vision National Testing Labs
Awarded a Letter of Recommendation from the Director for exemplary performance.
- Built an extractive document-querying system with Haystack & FarmReader, top-5 answer retrieval at 75% accuracy over scanned forms.
- Managed a 15-person team processing 2,000+ forms daily at up to 85% accuracy, doing root-cause analysis on data problems along the way.
Vizuara, mathematics content
Created concept videos in Manim (the engine behind 3Blue1Brown) for a US ed-tech startup: 3D, gamified, AR/VR-flavoured content aimed at making students think computationally.
Finlatics, investment banking program
An IB / PE / VC-oriented research program: authored case studies on successful private-equity exits across Indian and international M&A, assessed investment proposals, and screened startups for growth potential from a fund's perspective.
